We are looking for passionate and motivated midwives to join our forward-thinking, energetic midwifery team at UHD. Our maternity services across Poole and Bournemouth have now merged creating new opportunities and coupled with plans to relocate to a new purpose built maternity unit, this is a great time to join us and be part of our new team.

The telephone triage service for urgent calls currently runs out of Dorset Health's Integrated Care Service Building in St Leonard's, Dorset. We are currently reviewing our telephone triage and looking for new midwives to help us develop this service. The role will also include occasional shifts in Poole Maternity Unit to maintain clinical skills.

Maternity Services at UHD are located in the community in Poole and Bournemouth and on a self contained site at the St Mary’s Maternity Hospital, located across the road from the main Poole Hospital site.

The Maternity Hospital is the centre for all high risk care in east Dorset and is fully equipped to meet the needs of women and babies with complications, as well as women with normal pregnancies and births. The Maternity Service provides a comprehensive service, offering women as much choice as possible in their maternity care; around 5,000 babies are delivered by our maternity staff each year, either at home or within the birth centre and labour ward in the hospital.

The Maternity Service offers a traditional model of midwifery care with separate teams for the acute and community service with on-going development of continuity models of care.

The Midwifery Led Haven Birth Centre has a total of five birthing rooms, three of these have pools to facilitate water birth and we offer an aromatherapy service. Care on the Birth Centre is managed completely by midwives and incorporates natural birthing techniques. It is fully equipped to support normal birth in a home-from-home environment.

Our two community teams cover Poole and Bournemouth area. We currently have a base at St Marys Hospital for the Poole team and then a Maternity Hub for the Bournemouth team. In addition to our community team we have a dedicated Oasis team which provides additional support to families. We also provide a homebirth service.

The Labour Ward provides care for women with high risk pregnancies. There are two dedicated obstetric theatres, a two bedded high dependency unit, six birth rooms and one birthing room with a pool. We are keen to promote active birth and where continuous electronic fetal monitoring is advised, we regularly use telemetry monitoring, including for women with medium risk pregnancies who would like to birth in water. Aromatherapy is also used and encouraged on the Labour Ward.

Base Location: St Mary's Maternity Unit but you will be required to work across site at the Bournemouth Maternity Hub and St Leonard's Hub

Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD. They underpin everything we do now and in the future. They define how we treat our patients, visitors, and each other, our valued team mates and colleagues.

We have a dedicated High Dependency team of Midwives who have undergone specialist training. Midwives on the Labour Ward have opportunities to develop their skills as a part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team.

We have a 12 bedded antenatal ward which also caters for induction of labour. Offering inpatient and outpatient induction of labour dependant on the individual woman’s risk factors, we have streamlined our service to include offering women balloon catheter induction.

We have an Antenatal Clinic based at Poole and on the Poole site we have an Antenatal Day Assessment Unit.

We have a 16 bedded Postnatal Ward offering traditional postnatal care to women and their babies. We also have an 8 bedded Transitional Care Ward, which provides additional support to more vulnerable babies and provides an outreach service to the Labour Ward.
