An excellent opportunity has arisen for a keen, enthusiastic, highly motivated solicitor or legal executive to join the Healthcare Legal Team at North Bristol NHS Trust.

The role is a full time post. This role provides essential legal support and advice as part of a busy team of solicitors, a legal executive and paralegals in response to healthcare litigation, clinical negligence, personal injury and staff claims and inquests.

The role requires the postholder to undertake factual investigation of clinical and non-clinical claims, draft legal documentation taking account of relevant legislation and case law, review evidence for and attend the Coroner’s Court and provide healthcare legal advice on a wide range of topics.

We are recruiting to the role of an in-house Solicitor / Legal Executive (Band 7), to replace the former postholder who recently left the Trust.

The role requires the postholder to undertake factual investigation of clinical and non-clinical claims, draft legal documentation taking account of relevant legislation and case law, review evidence for and attend the Coroner’s Court and provide healthcare legal advice on a wide range of topics.

As such applicants must be a fully qualified solicitor/CILEX with a minimum of one year’s post qualification experience, specialising in medical negligence or personal injury claims. They must also be a member of the appropriate professional body e.g. Law Society/ Bar Council/Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX/FILEX) and maintain a current practising certificate/ professional body registration in line with the bodies requirements.

The role will report to the Trust’s Consultant Solicitor within the litigation and claims team and provides an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge across a broad portfolio of cases and advisory work, within a busy and supportive working environment.

• Provide legal support and advice as part of a dedicated in-house legal service in response to healthcare litigation, clinical negligence, personal injury and staff claims, inquests and healthcare advice.
• Undertake factual investigation of clinical and non-clinical claims and Coroner's inquests and investigations.
• Draft legal documentation, undertake legal research of legislation and case law.
• Review evidence for and attend Coroner’s Court and initiate High Court and Court of Protection applications on healthcare matters.
• Supervise members of the legal team.
• Comply with the NHS Resolution’s Reporting Guidelines, manage Pre-Action Claims, and comply with the Coroner’s Rules and Regulations.
